Frequently Asked Questions

What are the minimum requirements for using PushPage? PushPage by itself is small; it installs in less than 0.5MB on your hard disk. You do need the following, however:
  • Digital cellular phone (WAP or Web-phone not required!) with text messaging1 or alphanumeric pager
  • Email dispatching for phone or pager.2
  • Internet Explorer 5.01 or later.
  • SMTP or MAPI-based email.
1Your cellular service provider may only offer text messaging as an option with an additional montly fee.

2Most service providers offer email dispatching. It is a feature that allows email to be sent to your cellular phone or pager by assigning an email address to the device (usually phonenumber@service.com). Check with your service provider regarding availability.

How much does PushPage cost? PushPage has a one-time charge of $19.95. It is not a subscription service. Your only other additional charges may be for the text messaging service from your cellular service provider.

I use dial-up networking. Does PushPage require full-time connection to the internet? No. The PushPage Scheduler will make a dial-up connection only when it needs to access a web site and send mail. It will disconnect when done, although it will stay connected if another site needs to be accessed within five minutes (you can change this setting in the configuration).

Doesn't my cellular provider offer a service like PushPage? Yes. AT&T Wireless has AT&T Personal News, Cingular has My Info Alerts, Verizon has MyVZW. Even Yahoo has Mobile Alerts. However, these services only let you choose from a list of information services they have an agreement with, where PushPage can let you select from virtually any web page. Also, these services have more limited scheduling options than PushPage. See the comparison chart below.
